This is special!

So said the commentator as the dust settled on an epic day. My heart was racing, the tingling on my nape unrelenting. This was phenomenal and I was alive to see it. Who would have thought that today would be that day?

History has been made. #Kenya7’s team have bagged the main cup in Singapore. We wont let the dust settle on the matter. We will scream ourselves hoarse singing the team’s praise.

It was not easy. 114 times they have played in the series. They have been to three finals, and always come short at the most crucial times. Today, they were impeccable. They not only put in the shift, they did it with focus, and with their eyes on the prize. There was that moment in the second half when the #Fijians were threatening a come back as they have done again and again this season and Oyoo came up with the goods with a try saving tackle. At that moment, my belief coalesced into conviction. this was it. History was on our side and the minutes ticked on. I couldn’t keep my seat much longer. With that final try, I lost it!

I have been thinking about life. It has dealt me blows again and again. Life sometimes just seems to shift you from one disappointment to another without taking a break.  At times it feels as though we will always come short. We may for a season, but if we remain unrelenting, we too can win at this.

I refuse to quit on this. I will fight on with every breath in me. These dreams will come alive.

Here is to going hard! Here is to fighting on! Here is to living it out loud!

There are lines I once jotted, about this girl. Yes there is a girl. I would gladly lay down my life for her, and yes she is worth it. She doesn’t know it, but her worth is far above rubies. Like Elizabeth Browning said, through behoving and unbehoving; for her I will strive on while there is breath in me.

Upon my knees, head on my breast;

With silent pleas for what is best;

On lonely nights without a light,

Such prayers I raised to the Lord of lights;

Through sighs and crys and smiles…

For a heart I shall love to the last.

(The rest of it is reserved for obvious reasons ;-)…)

Here is the thing.This too is very special. Yes you are worth it 100%.

ANTICIPATING PAIN

I love, love love this piece! So proud of you. I have been spoken to.

Recently I went through a caeserian section  during the delivery of my little girl. As a second time CS mum, I could almost vividly remember what I went through after the birth of my son. I remember pain. A lot of pain and especially after I had gone home. My boy was barely two weeks old when we hosted a bunch of friends. I believe that partly due to pain medication and partly due to the fact that I was new to the family and did not want to look like a ‘softie’, I played it cool and sat down for almost six hours entertaining guests. Now, those who have gone through a major operation, especially a c-section can bare me witness when I talk of this pain, especially when you are not on really strong pain meds. The pain was simply unbearable!!! I needed help standing up from the…
